CMS finalizes rule for breakthrough devices

CMS has finalized a rule to enhance access to breakthrough medical devices for Medicare beneficiaries via the Transitional Coverage for Emerging Technologies Pathway. It will fast-track the coverage of FDA-designated devices, with the aim of granting national coverage within six months of each device’s market authorization. The pathway helps determine the correct Medicare benefit category for the device.
