CMS has received 12K complaints of No Surprises noncompliance; won $1.7M in restitution

More than 12,000 complaints were made against insurers and healthcare providers for noncompliance with the No Surprises Act, which prevents surprise medical billing. The majority of complaints were for surprise bills, while common complaints against health plans involved calculating qualifying payment amounts incorrectly. The CMS has won over $1.7 million in restitution for consumers and providers due to closed complaints.
