Dallas-based healthcare revenue management company Conifer Revenue Cycle Solutions announced that it had suffered a data breach on January 20, resulting in the compromise of patient information from six hospitals. The breach, which was only detected in April during a cybersecurity review of a compromised email account, potentially exposed personal and medical information of affected patients, including Social Security numbers, financial account details, and health insurance information. Conifer has implemented enhanced security measures and notified affected patients. The breach highlights the ongoing cybersecurity risks faced by healthcare organizations. So far this year, there have been over 400 cybersecurity breaches impacting protected health information.
