Coronavirus-related cyber crime contributes to 15-fold surge in scam takedowns

The UK National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) reported a significant surge in cyber scams in 2020, specifically Covid-19 and NHS-related crimes. The agency reported a 15-fold increase in the removal of online campaigns compared to 2019. Among the scams were phishing attacks using NHS branding, as well as 43 fake NHS Covid-19 app scams. HM Revenue & Customs was the most copied brand used by fraudsters, followed by gov.uk and TV Licensing.
