Cost of Healthcare Data Breaches Up 53% from 2020

Healthcare data breach costs averaged nearly $11m in 2023, a rise of 53% from 2020, according to the Ponemon Institute’s “Cost of Data Breach Report”. Furthermore, the global average cost of a data breach reached an all-time high of $4.45m. The most commonly breached information was personally identifiable information (PII), which also carried the highest costs. The study also found that using AI and automation significantly reduced data breach costs and victims involving law enforcement saved on average breach costs.
