COVID-19 tracing app to be trialled on the Isle of Wight before UK roll-out

The Isle of Wight will trial a COVID-19 contact-tracing app, with a nationwide rollout expected soon. The app, which alerts users if they have been in close proximity to someone with the virus, will initially be available to NHS staff and later to all island households. Health Secretary Matt Hancock emphasized that the app does not replace social distancing measures. The app has faced privacy concerns, but the Department of Health and Social Care has insisted that privacy and security have been prioritized in its development.
