‘Culturestreak’ Malware Lurks Inside GitLab Python Package

Cybersecurity researchers have detected a malicious open-source Python file on GitLab that mines cryptocurrency using system resources. Named “culturestreak”, the package originates from a user called Aldri Terakhir. If downloaded and installed, it uses system resources to illegitimately mine the Dero digital currency. Checkmarx, the firm that uncovered the threat, says that such operations pose serious risks, exploiting system resources, slowing down computers and potentially increasing exposure to further risks.
