Cyber-attacks hit hospitals, health services in Victoria

Several hospitals and health services in Gippsland and south-west Victoria have been targeted by ransomware attacks. The attacks have impacted servers and resulted in a loss of access to patient histories and other data sets. While there is no indication that personal patient information was accessed, some facilities have had to revert to manual systems, and some services may need to be rescheduled. The Victorian Cyber Incident Response Service is working to manage the incident. A recent audit found that Victoria’s public health system is highly vulnerable to cyber-attacks.
