Cybersecurity threats to medical devices are a growing concern

Medical devices, ranging from simple to complex IoT systems, are raising concerns due to increased cyber threats and growing geopolitical tensions. Many Health Internet of Thing (HIoT) devices lack the hardware capacity to run newer operating systems and don’t have storage to support patched applications, leaving them vulnerable to cyberattacks. The FDA will enact new rules for device security in 2023, however, these won’t address legacy systems. Healthcare providers are urged to implement additional security measures and use AI-based tools for automated security enforcement.
