Cyberthreats, Data Breaches in the Healthcare Sector Are Rising

The US healthcare sector has seen a 256% rise in hacking-related breaches and a 264% increase in ransomware incidents in the past five years. The Office for Civil Rights (OCR) advises entities under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) to be proactive against cyber-threats. Its guidance includes ensuring partnerships are secure, embedding risk management in business operations, and enhancing authentication measures. OCR suggests the impact of cyber-threats could be significantly reduced if entities adhered to the HIPAA Security Rule.
