DarkGate Malware Spreading via Messaging Services Posing as PDF Files

Malware named DarkGate is being spread via Skype and Microsoft Teams, according to Trend Micro. Originating from leaked credentials or previous compromises, the malware uses messaging apps to deliver a loader script masked as a PDF document, leading to the download of a malicious script. DarkGate can harvest sensitive data, conduct crypto mining, and control infected hosts remotely, and its use has surged due to increased advertising and rental on underground forums.
