Data attacks on healthcare flying high

siteadmin April 9, 2014

Data attacks on hospitals in the US have increased 100% in four years, but data access breaches have slightly declined in recent years, costing the healthcare industry $5.6bn annually. Data breaches result mainly from employee negligence, though attacks by criminals on hospitals have risen; one 2015 survey showed 73% of respondents lacked confidence in third parties’ ability to detect security incidents and manage breaches. With 90% of those surveyed already having experienced at least one data breach over a two-year period, the financial burden on the industry is estimated at $2m per organisation.
