Data protection laws in COVID-19 times

In 2018, data protection laws were approved in the US and Europe, with Brazil also implementing privacy regulations. The ‘Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados Pessoais’ (LGPD) was approved in Brazil, similar to the European GDPR. The LGPD aims to protect personal data, promote development, and includes provisions for notification and rights of individuals. However, many companies still struggle to comply with the LGPD, and its effective date may be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Investment is a key challenge for successful implementation.
