Delay of mandatory eRx doesn’t change hospital plans
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has postponed the deadline for physicians to issue electronic prescriptions until 2016. The delay is due to the federal government’s slow pace in certifying vendors for the programme. The mandatory prescribing of medication is intended to help combat fraud and abuse of prescription drugs, particularly opioids. Despite the delay, some hospitals are already adopting technology to enable electronic prescribing of controlled substances.
