Despite EHRs, healthcare still ‘buried in paperwork,’ says survey
Despite the implementation of EHR systems, a survey by Anoto found that many healthcare organizations still rely heavily on paper-based processes. Respondents cited reasons such as cultural embedding, cost, and training disruptions as barriers to adopting digital systems. They also predicted that the paperwork burden will increase with the implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. However, nearly 90% of respondents with EHR systems believed that they improved patient care, indicating interest in digitizing paper-based processes.
