Device cybersecurity requires a ‘whole community’ approach

The rise in connectivity of medical devices has improved patient care, but also poses cybersecurity risks. Dr. Suzanne B. Schwartz from the FDA emphasized the need for collective action and partnerships to address vulnerabilities. The FDA has focused on collaborating with industry leaders and engaging a wide range of stakeholders to enhance medical device cybersecurity, including legacy devices. Communication of vulnerabilities to patients and healthcare providers is also a priority. Medical device cybersecurity is not solely an IT issue but a patient safety concern.
