DOJ says largest housing provider for migrant kids engaged in pervasive sexual abuse

The US Department of Justice (DOJ) has accused Texas nonprofit Southwest Key Programs, the largest private provider of housing for unaccompanied migrant children, of subjecting minors to repeated sexual abuse and harassment. According to a lawsuit, the abuse occurred from 2015 to at least 2023 and involved severe sexual abuse, rape, and solicitation of sex acts. The company allegedly failed to act despite receiving over 100 reports of such misconduct. The children mainly come from Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador and range from 5 to 17 years old.
