Dutch hospitals underestimate impact of cyber attack
Pro-Russian hackers known as Killnet have targeted Dutch hospitals with distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, according to digital security partnership Z-Cert. The group’s impact is “enormous”, affecting patient care, causing emergency department closures and operation cancellations, warned researcher Liselotte van Boven. She called for improved IT security and business continuity, while her mentor Dennis Barten explained that cyber attacks have yet to lead to Dutch patient deaths but it “might only be a matter of time”.
