EHRs widely used but fall short of federal standards

A new report has found that even though a majority of California physicians now use EHRs, most of the implemented systems fail to meet new federal meaningful use requirements. The report also highlights that the size of a physician’s practice is the strongest predictor of having an EHR, with smaller practices less likely to have them. Incentive payments are being provided to encourage increased adoption of EHRs.
