Endpoint malware attacks decline as campaigns spread wider
In Q2 2023, 95% of malware arrived via encrypted connections, despite overall volumes decreasing, according to WatchGuard. Ransomware detections fell, even as double-extortion attacks and the exploitation of old software vulnerabilities increased. The report also highlighted the increased use of Windows tools by threat actors for malware delivery, as well as the discovery of new signatures based on older vulnerabilities in network attacks.
