“Everything’s frozen”: Ransomware locks credit union users out of bank accounts

The Patelco Credit Union, a California Cooperative, reported a ransomware attack which disrupted its account services. The attack, detected on 29 June, caused the Credit Union to shut down some of its banking systems, affecting transactions, transfers, payments, and deposits. The cyber breach could take weeks for the $9bn credit union, serving over 450k members, to recover from. Patelco also warned that members’ personal data may be at risk.
