“Everything’s frozen”: Ransomware locks credit union users out of bank accounts

A California credit union, Patelco, has reported a ransomware attack disrupting its services and risking its users’ data. Reports suggest the compromise and cryptographic locking of systems occurred through a phishing attack. The union, which is working to restore secure services, has over 450,000 members, 37 counties, and approximately $9bn assets. Patelco is yet to clarify whether it will choose to pay the ransom.
