Exploring the Rise in Mental Health Care Use by Demographics and Insurance Status

The number of adults receiving mental health treatment in the US is increasing, rising from 19% in 2019 to 23% in 2022, with young adults (ages 18-26) most likely to receive it. Women are twice as likely as men to report receiving mental health treatment, while white adults are more likely than other ethnic groups to report receiving it. Lack of insurance and insufficient numbers of health care providers present barriers to accessing services.
