Fake Browser Updates Used in Malware Distribution
Cybersecurity researchers at Proofpoint have identified a growing trend of using fake browser updates to spread malware. These compromised sites mimic popular browsers and get users to unknowingly download malicious software. Four distinct threat clusters have been identified using this tactic, with the success of these attacks owing to exploiting users’ trust in known websites. The researchers warn of the importance of robust cybersecurity measures and training to counter such threats.
