FBI and European partners seize major malware network in blow to global cybercrime

The FBI and its European counterparts seized a major global malware network known as Qakbot, used to facilitate online criminal activity, including ransomware attacks. The network, which facilitated around 40 ransomware attacks netting about $58 million in 18 months, was targeted in an operation known as “Duck Hunt.” Notably, $8.6 million in cryptocurrency was seized or frozen, while the infrastructure was used to remove the malware from thousands of infected computers.
