FDA alerts providers to cyber vulnerability in DNA sequencing devices

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has warned about a cybersecurity vulnerability in the Universal Copy Service software of certain Illumina medical devices. These devices, used to sequence DNA, could be remotely controlled or have their data altered by unauthorized users. The FDA advises customers to install a software patch as soon as possible and contact Illumina if they suspect a breach.
