A Florida resident has filed a lawsuit against UF Health Central Florida (UFHCF) after a data breach exposed the personal information of more than 700,000 individuals. The lawsuit accuses UFHCF of failing to properly secure the data and safeguard personally identifiable information. The breach occurred earlier this year when hackers gained unauthorized access to UFHCF’s computer network. The compromised information includes names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, health insurance information, and medical record numbers. The plaintiff argues that UFHCF failed to implement adequate security measures and seeks injunctive and other equitable relief. Similar lawsuits have been filed against other healthcare organizations following data breaches.
