Former NSA director: U.S. needs a new approach to ransomware response

The United States is not only facing the COVID-19 pandemic but also a cyber pandemic, with ransomware attacks targeting hospitals and causing disruption. Ransomware attacks have increased in frequency and sophistication, posing a significant challenge for organizations, particularly in the healthcare sector. The increasing financial incentives for criminal groups and aggressive actions by nation states have contributed to the worsening cybersecurity landscape. The current approach to incident prevention and response, which lacks integration between the public and private sectors, needs to change. Collaboration and a different model focused on integration are necessary to tackle the cyber threat effectively.
