German contact-tracing app takes different path to NHS

Germany’s upcoming coronavirus contact tracing app will send alerts only to users who have tested positive for the virus, in contrast with the UK’s NHS app which relies on user self-reporting. Germany’s model is decentralised and designed to offer more privacy, while the NHS pursues a centralised model. Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel has suggested this approach will have a “much higher level of acceptance”.
