GoodRx shared health data with Google and Facebook, FTC says

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has accused GoodRx, a drug-cost and telehealth platform, of sharing consumers’ personal health information with third parties such as Google and Facebook. GoodRx has agreed to pay a $1.5 million fine to settle the case but denies any wrongdoing. The FTC’s proposed court order would permanently prohibit GoodRx from sharing health data for advertising purposes and impose other privacy protection measures. This is the first time the agency has taken enforcement action under the Health Breach Notification Rule. Privacy concerns surrounding health data shared with apps and wearables continue to be raised by experts.
