Google Cloud: Telcos facing marked increase in cyber attacks

Google Cloud’s latest security report has warned telecoms companies of rising cyber security threats, revealing that 85% of the largest DDoS attacks were aimed at the sector. The report cited state-backed attacks and increasingly sophisticated profit-motivated adversaries as factors. Other risks include the adoption of cloud services and unpatched legacy technology. The adoption of distributed 5G could also increase the attack surface. The authors recommended a “zero trust” approach and due diligence in the cloud environment.
