Google Cloud: Telcos facing marked increase in cyber attacks

Google Cloud’s latest security report reveals a rise in cyber attacks against telecoms companies and these attacks account for 85% of the largest 1,000 DDoS attacks in Q1 2023. State-backed attacks and increased sophistication of profit-driven attackers were noted. The adoption of cloud services and unpatched legacy equipment increase telecoms’ vulnerability. The report suggests adopting a zero trust approach to network architecture and being vigilant over cloud environments.
