Government sends out ‘stay at home’ text messages as coronavirus lockdown begins

The UK government has begun sending text messages to inform mobile users about the latest lockdown rules needed to combat the spread of Covid-19. Some people have already received the texts, which read: “GOV.UK ALERT CORONAVIRUS. New rules in force now: you must stay at home. More info and exemptions at gov.uk/coronavirus Stay at home. Protect the NHS. Save lives.” Mobile providers are sending the alerts, as the UK has no emergency alert system.
