Government sends out text messages as coronavirus lockdown begins
UK mobile phone users are receiving a government text instructing them to stay at home during the Covid-19 lockdown. The country has no emergency alert system, so network operators are sending the texts at different times. In addition, the NHS is texting vulnerable people advising them to stay at home for 12 weeks. Meanwhile, cybersecurity experts warn of “phishing” scams exploiting the crisis.
