‘Great on Paper’: Why Primary Care Physicians Are Reluctant To Join Value-Based Care

While many primary care providers are interested in value-based care models, financial barriers, workforce shortages, and documentation burdens are preventing widespread adoption, according to a study by the Commonwealth Fund. Currently, just 46% of primary care physicians receive value-based payments. Solutions to these issues suggested by the report include creating incentives for more physicians to enter primary care and offering more upfront payments to physicians.
