Hackers are changing their approach to healthcare ransomware attacks

Ransomware attacks in the healthcare industry are becoming increasingly targeted, according to industry insiders. Cybersecurity firm F-Secure noted that while healthcare remains a prime target for hackers, their techniques have changed significantly. Previously, hackers (some of whom were acting as lone individuals or organised crime outfits) relied on automated ransomware with a modest ransom fee. As victims have taken steps to prevent such an attack, hackers have switched tactics. Tom Van de Wiele at F-Secure said the majority of his clients could have avoided ransomware attacks with better security practices.
