Cybersecurity researchers have reported over 1.2 million global corporate cyber-attacks since last Friday, primarily by alleged Chinese state-backed hackers. The onslaught used a newfound vulnerability in popular open-source software, Log4J, facilitating remote control of computers running Java applications. Cybersecurity group Check Point noted the attack frequency increasing to over 100 assaults per minute at times. No significant breaches were reported, though experts fear the attacks’ effects will last for months. China and Russia have previously exploited weaknesses in predominantly used software, including Microsoft and SolarWinds.
