Hackers using Log4j bug to profit from victim IP addresses through ‘proxyjacking’ scheme

Companies that enable users to adopt other Internet Protocol (IP) addresses are under threat from ‘proxyjacking’, where hackers hijack the IP details and sell them on. Using Log4j vulnerabilities to access systems, cybercriminals can sell stolen IP addresses to proxyware firms with fewer restrictions. This technique also uses less computing power than other hacks, like illicit cryptomining, making it more difficult to detect and financially lucrative for the hackers. Researchers have warned against willingly selling internet bandwidth due to the possibility of malicious use.
