Hackney Council Reprimanded For ‘Avoidable’ Data Breach
The UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has rebuked the London Borough of Hackney’s (LBoH) over its cybersecurity practices following a 2020 ransomware attack that leaked the data of 280,000 individuals. The breach was tied to the Pysa ransomware gang and was blamed on lax security protocols and poor management. The ICO did not, however, issue a fine because of the council’s handling of the incident.
