Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare sued for data breach
Harvard Pilgrim Health Care and its parent company, Point32Health, are facing multiple lawsuits accusing them of failing to protect personally identifiable information and protected health information. The lawsuits allege damages and future damages to the health insurer’s members as a result of their negligence. Additional lawsuits claim violations of the HIPAA Security Rule. Point32Health has made progress in restoring systems and ensuring members receive necessary care. The breach, which occurred between March and April, resulted in stolen data including names, addresses, phone numbers, and Social Security numbers.
