Health and Health Care Among Adults with Previous Experiences of Homelessness: Findings from the KFF Survey on Racism, Discrimination, and Health
Homelessness in the U.S. is affecting more than 650,000 people as of January 2023, up 12% from 2022. A report based on analysis of the KFF’s 2023 Racism, Discrimination, and Health Survey reveals that adults who have been homeless face disproportionate physical and mental health needs and greater socioeconomic challenges. Those with prior homelessness experience are generally lower income, with home ownership rates significantly lower compared to those who have never been homeless. Despite substantial health needs, many adults who have experienced homelessness report unmet need for healthcare.
