Health info exchange will test unique patient IDs
The Western Health Information Network (WHIN) has received a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Pioneer Portfolio to conduct a pilot project on how unique patient identifiers can improve patient control over their clinical information and enhance the quality of medical records. WHIN will issue identifiers using the Voluntary Universal Healthcare Identifier (VUHID) system provided by Global Patient Identifiers, Inc (GPII) to accurately identify patients and access healthcare records during visits. The project will run from mid-April 2021 to mid-2022 in the Los Angeles area.
