Healthcare adjusts to life as hacker target
During the Cold War, espionage events occurred approximately once every 10 years between the US and the Soviets. In the 21st Century, the threat landscape has changed dramatically, with over 41,000 cyberattacks on government agencies in 2010 alone. Medical data is the most desired aim for hackers, and healthcare organizations are particularly vulnerable due to the interconnected nature of the industry. Risk management is challenging, as hackers are becoming increasingly creative and persistent. Cyber insurance is being used as a risk mitigation strategy, but it is not a substitute for strong security measures.
