Despite precautions and regulatory expectations, the healthcare industry continues to suffer significant data breaches. The recent cyberattack on Change Healthcare significantly impacted the industry. Despite HIPAA security rules and extensive guidance, this issue persists due to challenges such as COVID-related technology responses, rapidly growing technology landscape, competing operational priorities, and inconsistent cyber hygiene. To combat this, in 2023, HHS released a cybersecurity strategy for the industry, however, concerns remain due to an increase in interparty and vendor relationships.
