Healthcare Data Breach Risk Doubles in 2-Year Window Around M&As
Research by doctoral candidate Nan Clement from the University of Texas has found that the risk of a data breach at hospitals doubles in the year before and after mergers or acquisitions (M&As). The study also showed incidents involving hacking and internal misconduct increase when a hospital merger is announced. Cybercriminals exploit company vulnerabilities during these large financial events, anticipating higher chances of ransom demands being met.
