Healthcare data breaches cost $10.1M on average, more than any other industry

Healthcare data breaches averaged $10.1 million per incident over the last year, more than any other industry, according to the annual IBM Cost of a Data Breach Report. The high cost is attributed to healthcare’s highly regulated status and slow adoption of zero-trust policies. The report found that related entities lacking zero-trust policies face higher breach costs. Meanwhile, breaches in the pharmaceutical industry ranked third-most expensive averaging $5.01 million per incident.
