Healthcare systems could face new DPRK ransomware tactics

Government agencies from the United States and South Korea have issued a cybersecurity advisory warning about new ransomware tactics being used by North Korean hackers. The agencies highlight the use of tactics to conceal the affiliation of the hackers, such as portraying themselves as other ransomware groups. The advisory also notes that North Korean cyber actors may threaten to expose a private healthcare company’s data if ransoms are not paid. Cryptocurrency ransoms are believed to support North Korea’s government cyber operations targeting the US and South Korean governments.
