High cost of 2023 healthcare data breaches continues decade-long trend, study shows

The healthcare industry’s increasing reliance on digital tools has led to a surge in costly cybersecurity attacks, with data breaches costing firms $11m in 2023 so far, an 8% increase on last year. Healthcare is the most expensive sector for data breaches, accounting for about 20 million instances of patients’ details being released without consent. Among those affected was HCA Healthcare, which faced four lawsuits due to leaked patient data.
