HIMSS23 Europe: Promoting patient trust in health data sharing

Tammy Lovell June 7, 2023

Patient involvement is crucial in the digitalization of healthcare, but many people fear the use of their personal data. A session at HIMSS23 European Health Conference will discuss patients’ attitudes towards data sharing and how to encourage consent. The session will also explore projects like the European Patients Forum initiative Data Saves Lives and the role of interoperability and governance. The session will focus on C4Yourself, a project that aimed to create a health data ecosystem where citizens could donate data for research. The integration of cloud-based technology will also be discussed. Building trust and promoting consent are essential for realizing the potential of health data. The session will be moderated by Petra Wilson and feature speakers from various organizations. The issue of patient trust was highlighted in the UK when 1.5 million people opted out of a scheme to share GP medical records with third parties. The government plans to build a national trusted research environment to ensure data security and accessibility.
