HIV service patient information leaked

NHS Highland committed a “serious breach of trust” by mistakenly leaking data relating to 40 patients connected to HIV treatment systems, according to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). The organisation was sent a reprimand instead of a £35,000 fine, the penalty imposed on private sector bodies for similar offences. The leak occurred when the health service emailed all HIV service users, exposing patients’ names and emails.
